Junior center Rob Loe scored a career high 20 points to lead the Billikens past UMass 70-62 on Thursday night in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.
The Billikens improved to 12-3 and ran their current winning streak to nine games while stopping UMass’ winning streak at seven. The Minutemen are now 10-4.
There were four SLU players who scored in double figures, but the night belonged to the 6’11” Loe, who made six of his 10 shots, two of his four 3-pointers and six of seven from the free throw line. Loe also grabbed seven rebounds and did most of his damage in the post.
Junior Jordair Jett followed with 15 points while starting guards Kwamain Mitchell and Mike McCall Jr. added 10 points each. Cory Remekun scored seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Billikens will have a quick turnaround before they play their next game at Temple on Thursday evening in Philadelphia. The Owls lost their A-10 opener to Xavier 57-52 in Cincinnati on Thursday night.
Tip off for Saturday’s game will be at 5 p.m. (St. Louis time).
