Standout swingman Xavier Sneed of Hazelwood Central continued the wave of commitments by the area’s Class of 2016 by making a pledge to Kansas State.
The 6’5″ Sneed made his commitment to Bruce Weber’s Wildcats in a televised press conference on KSDK-TV on Monday afternoon. Sneed selected Kansas State over Illinois and Xavier, the other two finalists for his services.
Led by assistant coach Chris Lowery, Kansas State had worked long and hard in their recruitment of Sneed it paid off in his commitment. The Wildcats will be getting one of the premier athletes in the state of Missouri. Sneed is a high-flying performer with excellent 3-point shooting ability off the catch. He is also a lock-down defender.
As a junior, Sneed averaged 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 40 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line. He led the Hawks to a 23-6 record and a berth in the Class 5 state quarterfinals.
During the summer, Sneed was a starter on the St. Louis Eagles 17U team that advanced to the championship game of the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in July. In 25 games in the hyper-competitive EYBL, Sneed averaged seven points a game.
