Former St. Charles High standout Casey Teson of Eastern Illinois was selected the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after a productive two-game stretch.
The 6’3″ guard averaged 13.5 points and made nine of 14 from 3-point range in helping lead the Panthers to victories over Indiana State and Northern Kentucky last week. Teson scored 18 points on six of eight shooting from 3-point range in the Panthers’ 68-62 victory over Indiana State. He followed up with nine points on three of six shooting from 3-point range in EIU’s 79-73 overtime victory over Northern Kentucky. He also added five assists, five rebounds and one steal against Northern Kentucky.
Through the first six games, Teson is averaging 7.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 45 percent from 3-point range. He is currently third in the OVC in 3-pointers made and seventh in 3-point shooting percentage.
As a senior in 2015, Teson led St. Charles High to the Missouri Class 4 state championship.
Teson is one of four players from the St. Louis area that are playing at Eastern Illinois. Senior Trae Anderson (Hazelwood Central) is averaging 13.5 points a game. Sophomore point guard Cornell “Li’l T” Johnston is averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 assists and freshman Marshawn Blackmon (Fort Zumwalt South) is averaging 4.8 points.
