It was a very productive weekend for area grassroots teams has they enjoyed some sparkling performances around the country.
St. Louis Eagles: The 15U and 16U teams both won championships at the King James Southern Exposure in Nashville, TN. The Eagles 16U team finished the weekend with a 5-0 record after defeating King James in the championship game. The 15U team also went 5-0 after defeating EAB Select (TN) 69-54 in the championship game. In the semifinals, the Eagles defeated King James 49-48 in the semifinals on a last-second free throw by guard Lawrence Brazil (CBC).
The Eagles 17U team went 2-1 in Session 1 of the Nike EYBL in Brooklyn. The Eagles defeated the Alabama Challenge and RM5 (TX) before losing to the New Jersey Playaz. The Eagles leading scorer for the weekend was guard Jordan Goodwin (Althoff), who averaged 14 points a game. Guards Tim Finke and Reggie Crawford (Chaminade) averaged 10 points a game each. The Eagles are headed to Indianapolis for the second session of EYBL play this week.
Gateway Basketball Club: The 17U finished 3-1 in Session I of the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series. Power forward Levi Stockard (Vashon) averaged 10 points and five rebounds during the weekend and picked up an offer from New Mexico in the process. Forward Javonte Perkins (Miller Career Academy) averaged 8.5 points while Wyatt Yess (Parkway West) averaged eight points. Yess also picked up an offer from Evansville. Forwards Garrett Franken and Ibrahima Sankora (St. Louis Christian) averaged 7.5 points. Gateway’s 16U team finished 2-2 during the weekend and advanced to the Silver Division semifinals while the 15U team finished with a 1-3 record. Gateway will head to Atlanta for the second session of the Adidas Uprising this weekend.
Jets-Ramey United: The 16U team enjoyed a big weekend in winning the Silver Division championship in Dallas. They defeated the I 10 Celtics 77-74 in the championship game as guard Torrence Watson (Whitfield) had 35 points and 16 rebounds. The 6’4″ Watson averaged more than 20 points a game in the Jets-Ramey United’s 5-0 record. The 15U also enjoyed a productive weekend as they finished 4-1. The 17U team finished 3-2 and advanced to the semifinals of the Silver Division.
Missouri Hustle: The Hustle finished 2-2 in the first weekend in the NY2LA Basketball Association. Forward Willie Lucas (Poplar Bluff) averaged 13.5 points and shot an impressive 75 percent from 3-point range. Guard Cliff DeGroot (Westminster) averaged 10 points while guard Steve Webb (Westminster) averaged 10 points while leading the league in steals after one week in play. Forward Xavier Womack averaged 5.7 rebounds, which is currently fifth in the league. The Missouri Hustle Central 17U team finished 3-2 and finished second in its bracket in the Midwest Live Tournament in Iowa.
Rocktown: The 15U team enjoyed a 5-0 weekend while winning their bracket championship at the Midwest Live in Iowa. Rocktown defeated Kingdom Hoops 62-39 in the championship game.
MoKan Elite: Webster Groves forward Carte’are Gordon is playing for the 17U team that finished 3-0 in the first session of EYBL play in Brooklyn. The 6’8″ Gordon averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in MoKan’s three victories.
