Illinois girls playoff action heats up

Southwestern Conference rivals Edwardsville and East St. Louis will meet up for the third time this season in the IHSA Class 4A Sectionals on Tuesday night at Belleville East. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

Edwardsville (29-2) won both games against the Flyerettes (22-5) this
season en route to winning the conference title. Edwardsville won its
own regional while East St. Louis won the Belleville East regional. The
winner will face either Moline or Normal Community in Thursday night's
sectional championship game in Normal.

In Class 3A, Belleville Althoff will battle Highland in one sectional
semifinal game at Breese Mater Dei on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Althoff
knocked off previously unbeaten Mater Dei in the Mascoutah Regional
finals to advance to the sectional playoffs. The winner will face either
Salem or Effingham in the sectional finals on Thursday night. Salem and
Effingham will play on Tuesday night at Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m.

In Class 2A, Piasa Southwestern (29-2) will face Nashville (26-6) in the
Salem Supersectional with a berth in the state semifinals on the line.
Game time is Monday at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to the state
semifinals on Friday at 12:15 p.m. at Illinois State University in
Normal. Nashville won the DuQuoion Sectional while Southwestern won the
Riverton Sectional.
