Metro East teams advance to Final Four
Breese Central and Madison High will both be taking trips to Peoria this weekend to compete in the Final Four of their respective state tournaments.
Breese Central advanced to the semifinals of the IHSA Class 2A state tournament with a 63-52 victory over Murphysboro in the West Frankfort Supersectional on Tuesday night.

Comets Take SNC Title: The McCluer Comets won the Suburban North Conference championship last week with a 63-57 victory over host Hazelwood Central last week. Junior guard Shaquille Boga (pictured) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Comets, who took control of the game in the third quarter and held off a late rally by the Hawks. McCluer finished an undefeated conference season with a 84-55 victory over Ritenour....Julian Johnson becomes Whitfield’s all-time leading scorer
Whitfield High senior Julian Johnson recently became the school’s all-time leading scorer. Johnson broke the scoring record on Tuesday, Feb. 15 when he scored nine points in Warriors’ victory over Waterloo Gibault, giving him 1,736 points. Big Upset: Rockwood Summit enjoyed one of the biggest upsets of the season last week when they shocked McCluer High 55-50 last Tuesday night. Top Team: (Cor Jesu Academy) The CJA girls outlasted a very talented field to win the Webster Groves Winter Challenge. After stunning MWAA conference rival St. Joseph's 47-43 in the semifinals on Friday night, the Markers came back to shock perennial state power Columbia Rock Bridge 47-42 in overtime to win the championship. Cor Jesu emerged from the tournament with a 17-4 record, so they are good team in their own right, but the Markers really earned their bonafides with their championship performance over the weekend....Log in
