Billikens top St. Joseph's 72-60
Philadelphia, PA - Junior forward Cody Ellis scored a career-high 20 points to lead Saint Louis U. past Saint Joseph's 72-60 in a key Atlantic 10 contest last night in the City of Brotherly Love. The Billikens improved their record to 7-3 in A-10 play and 19-5 overall. The Hawks fell to 5-5 in league play and 15-10 overall as they suffered only their second loss of the year on their home court.
The 6'8" Ellis was of fire from 3-point range as he hit six of his nine attempts from 3-point territory. He scored 17 points in the second half as the Billikens outscored the Hawks 43-33. The Billikens' shooting touch resurfaced on Wednesday night as they shot 50 percent from 3-point range, hitting 10 of 20 from long distance.
Senior Brian Conklin scored 13 points and junior Kwamain Mitchell added 12 points and five assists. Sophomore Dwayne Evans grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
At 7-3 in league play, the Billikens are now tied for second play in the A-10 with Xavier and Massachusetts. Temple leads the league with a 7-2 record. The Owls will host Xavier on Saturday night in Philly.
